Derived from the words ‘IPod’ and ‘Broadcast’ the Podcast’s first appeal was that it allowed anyone to distribute their own radio-style shows, via the web and without access to broadcast media.
The podcast – as technology developed - quickly became used in a wide variety of other ways, including for distribution of video podcasts (often called vodcasts, vidcasts or screencasts). So now it’s possible to imitate TV broadcasts, as well as radio broadcasting.
